Digital Product Passport for Electronics & Appliances

Consumer electronics and household appliances are named in the ESPR working plan as a priority product group. A DPP here centres on reparability and material recovery — a bill of materials, a repairability score, and spare-parts availability, on top of the carbon-footprint and recycled-content data every category reports.

Model-level — once per product

  • Component bill of materials
  • Reparability / repairability score
  • Expected lifetime
  • Energy efficiency class
  • Presence of substances of concern

Item-level — per serial number

  • Serial number & production batch
  • Manufacturing date & site
  • Firmware / software version history
  • Repair & spare-parts events

Questions about electronics & appliances passports

Does this overlap with existing energy labels?

It's designed to extend them, not replace them — energy class is one field among many in a fuller passport that also covers repairability, materials, and end-of-life handling.

What's different from existing WEEE / RoHS compliance?

WEEE and RoHS are substance and end-of-life obligations on the manufacturer. A DPP is a structured, per-unit public record of that same underlying data, accessible by scanning the product.
